Ljubljana – A key multi-day plenary at which parliament was to vote on the opposition-sponsored motion to impeach Prime Minister Janez Janša and the coalition’s proposal to dismiss Speaker Igor Zorčič was aborted on Monday after MPs failed to endorse the agenda in the first such instance to date. Each side then filed for an emergency session instead.

Centre-left opposition files request for impeachment session

Ljubljana – Centre-left opposition parties have asked for an emergency session of parliament to discuss their motion to impeach PM Janez Janša. This is after the parliament met for a regular session today to discuss the motion and a number of bills, but the plenary was suspended after the MPs failed to confirm the agenda in a 42:42 vote.

Ljubljana – The latest Vox Populi poll, commissioned by dailies Dnevnik and Večer, shows that the support for the Janez Janša government has hit its lowest point so far as 70.2% think the government is not doing its job well. Meanwhile, the ruling Democrats (SDS) remain in the lead, followed by the opposition SocDems.

Ex-Turkish presidential contender forms new political party

A politician who once ran as a presidential challenger to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, formed a new political party on May 17, months after he broke away from Turkey's main opposition party.

Muharrem Ince, 56, formally applied to the Interior Ministry to establish the Memleket Partisi, or Homeland Party, and was immediately chosen as its chairman.

PSD: Gov't needs to cooperate with those who can help saving Recovery Plan

DeSUS MPs remain party members

Ljubljana – The executive committee of the Pensioners’ Party (DeSUS) was expected to decide on Friday whether to strip its MPs of party membership over their recent voting record. Due to procedural issues, the matter was not put to a vote.

Four regional chapters would have had to back the proposal to hold a vote, but only two did, the party’s interim president Brigita Čokl said.

PSD's Suciu: PNRR must be put up for debate in Parliament, loan ratification requires our votes

Bistrita-Nasaud Social Democrat deputy Daniel Suciu told a press conference on Friday that the ratification of the loan treaty for kickstarting the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) requires the votes of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) MPs, which is why it is "common sense and reasonable" for the plan to be debated in Parliament.
