Labor productivity in Greece remains low compared to Europe, according to the annual report of the Hellenic Productivity Council highlighting a permanent weakness of the Greek economy.

High taxes and social security contributions, Greek bureaucracy, high energy costs and unclear and dysfunctional zoning laws are the factors that have led to the contraction of the local manufacturing sector, according to a study by the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE).

Industrial production in Turkey exceeded estimates in August, driven largely by a sharp increase in durable goods production, according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜ?K) released on Oct. 8.

"Croatia has entered the time of a new development model that relies on competitiveness and productivity, and not on massive public investment in infrastructure," Milanovic told the Invest HR conference in Zagreb on Monday.

"We have a new development model; we do not need hundreds of kilometres of new highways and thousands of new houses, but we need investment in quality," he added.
