BALI's highest volcano, Mount Agung, is sending hot volcanic ash 2,500 metres into the air following the eruption on Thursday, causing major disruption to international flights as the airport serving the island closed for several hours.

The Jakarta Post - Private carrier Lion Air removed another passenger for cracking a bomb joke on Monday from a flight that was to depart from Supadio International Airport, Pontianak, West Kalimantan bound for Soekarno - Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten.

At least 23 people have been killed in an explosion at a fireworks factory near Jakarta, according to abc.net.au

Bodies are still being recovered from the building, and the death toll is expected to rise.

Police said they did not know how many people were working in the factory in the city of Tangerang, west of Jakarta.

The Foreign Ministry and the Embassy of Bulgaria in Jakarta have warned Bulgarian tourists that Indonesia has raised the level of potential risk of the Agung volcano eruption at the highest fourth grade, reports iNews. 

Against the backdrop of massive fires raging in five Indonesian provinces, a representative of local authorities has proposed a radical solution to address the problem, namely, the shooting of those who have deliberately provoked them, broadcasts Voice of America.

A powerful and shallow 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck off the west coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra, according to US Geological Survey.

The epicentre was 502 miles southwest of Padang and it was 10 km deep. Up to now, there were no reports of damage or casualties.

Indonesian authorities issued a tsunami warning for the regions of West Sumatra, North Sumatra and Aceh.

Bali's international airport will remain closed until Nov. 6 due to ash erupting from a nearby volcano, Indonesian officials said, grounding hundreds of flights for a second consecutive day.
