The Bulgarian interior ministry has devised a strategy on countering the radicalisation of terrorism (2015-2020).

The strategy points to extremism and radicalisation as threatening the founding values of the EU - democracy, human rights, freedom and the rule of law.

EU Commissioner for Migration and Internal Affairs Dimitris Avramopoulos on Tuesday stressed the need for a comprehensive approach – as the one promoted in the European Agenda for Security – to deal with terrorism and extremism while speaking at the High Level Ministerial Meeting on Radicalization held in Brussels.

Bulgaria looks at the forthcoming presidency of the Council of Europe as an opportunity to contribute to security in Europe, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said at a meeting with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland in Sofia on Monday.

A draft decree of Bulgaria's Council of Ministers envisages tasking the National Counterterrorism Center with the collection of data on violent extremism and radicalization.

The document, which envisages changes to the activities of the centre, is being coordinated with the Interior Ministry, according to reports of dnevnik.bg

British Prime Minister David Cameron urged Muslim communities and families on June 19 to do more to fight extremism, warning some Muslims risk fostering radicalism in young people by quietly condoning extreme views. 

BELGRADE - Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic stated Wednesday that terrorism is a global threat, adding that only cooperation, modern and trained police and work on prevention can help fight it.
