Bulgarian Socialists Deem Ex-President ‘Self-Expelled’ from Party

The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) is set to announce the "self-expulsion" of former Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov.

At its upcoming National Council on Friday, Bulgaria's ruling party will also declare the resignation of key BSP members who earlier joined Parvanov's splinter movement called Alternative for Bulgarian Renaissance (ABV), Dnevnik.bg has learned.

“We Are Witnessing a Democratic Revolution in Ukraine”, Bulgaria's President Rosen Plevneliev wrote in his official Twitter account on Monday.

In a series of tweets, commenting on the situation in Ukraine, Plevneliev said it was of the highest importance that Ukraine remains whole and conducts open and fair elections.

Bulgarian President in Sochi for Closing Ceremony

Bulgaria's President Rosen Plevneliev is in Sochi for the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games.

The head of state arrived in Sochi on Saturday, where he met with the Bulgarian athletes who are still at the Games, as well as the broadcasting team of the Bulgarian National Television. Later he watched the men's relay in the biathlon, where Bulgaria finished 15th.
