UK’s top ballet stars leap back into spotlight

After a year of playing to empty houses, Britain's Royal Ballet dancers William Bracewell and Fumi Kaneko are eager to "celebrate what we do best" when they return to the public stage as Romeo and Juliet.

"I haven't done this, a three-act ballet for ages," Japanese prima ballerina Kaneko told AFP after a rehearsal of the famous balcony scene.

Sutra | Athens | September 3-4

"Sutra" is a collaborative performance by choreographer Sidi Labri Cherkaoui, artist Antony Gormley and 19 Buddhist monks, honoring an ancient kung fu tradition with a musical score by Polish composer Szymon Brzoska. The multinational production, which will go on stage at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), was commissioned by the Sadler's Wells Theatre in London.

Romeo & Juliet | Athens | July 9

The Village Cinemas multiplex in Faliro is screening the UK Royal Opera House's classic production of Sergei Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet," choreographed by Sir Kenneth MacMillan. His take on the tale of the star-crossed lovers premiered at Covent Garden in 1965 and was an immediate success.

Budding ballet dancers to show off their skills in 'Persephone'

At the entrance of the Horochronos dance venue in Votanikos, central Athens, the dancers are trying out various positions, concentrating hard and demonstrating extraordinary flexibility as they stretch their legs. Twirling around they lose their balance, but manage to get up again without losing faith.
