Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday after visiting the United Arab Emirates, making a rare trip abroad as Moscow seeks to reassert itself on the global stage.

Saudi Arabia and Russia have agreed to extend their voluntary oil production cuts through the end of this year, trimming 1.3 million barrels of crude out of the global market and boosting energy prices.

The dual announcements from Riyadh and Moscow pushed benchmark Brent crude above $90 a barrel in trading yesterday, a price unseen in the market since November.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman begins a regional tour today in Egypt that will also take him to Türkiye to bolster regional ties, a Saudi diplomat said.

After Cairo, Prince Mohammed, Saudi Arabia's de facto leader, will travel to Jordan and then on to Türkiye, the diplomat said.

Two Saudi officials told The Associated Press the Saudi energy minister informed the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, or OPEC, of the kingdom's commitment to the group's current roadmap of cautious monthly  increases. They spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to brief journalists.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on March 16 that Saudi Arabia has requested a supply of Turkish military drones.

But Erdoğan also voiced his displeasure at the kingdom's decision to conduct join air exercises with Turkey's longstanding rival Greece, suggesting that an agreement on drones depended on Riyadh's future conduct.

Russian President Vladimir Putin traveled to Saudi Arabia on Oct. 14, meeting with the oil-rich nation's king and crown prince as he seeks to cement Moscow's political and energy ties across the Mideast.

Russia and Turkey have created conditions for launching the political settlement of the Syrian conflict, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Dec. 30.
