Group attacks Women's Day demo at Istanbul Bilgi University

A mob illegally entered the Bilgi University campus in central Istanbul to attack students marking International Women's Day on March 8. 

The university confirmed in a statement that a group of 15 to 20 jumped over the gates of the santralistanbul campus to attack the students, chanting "Allahu akbar" (God is great). 

Symposium on Ottoman consumption

Istanbul Bilgi University will organize a symposium titled "Food, Drink, Fine Clothes and the Good Things of Life: Consumption in the Ottoman Empire" on Dec. 19 and 20. 

The conference will approach the subject of Ottoman consumption during the early modern period (1450-1850) using two main avenues: Food and drink on the one hand, and clothes and jewelry on the other. 

US cartoonist Kallaugher in Istanbul

Istanbul Bilgi University will today host Kevin (Kal) Kallaugher, the political cartoonist of The Economist and the daily newspaper The Baltimore Sun. 

Kallaugher will give a speech titled "Ink and Pixels: Being a political cartoonist in the 21st century," at 2 p.m. at the university's santralistanbul campus. After the talk he will also respond to questions from the audience.
