'National car' prototypes made in Sweden for $45 mln

The long-awaited ?Turkish national car? prototypes which sparked widespread debate over their originality were made in Sweden and purchased for 40 million euros ($45 million).

The prototypes of the ?indigenous? cars announced on Oct.13 by I??k initiated a social media storm due to their resemblance to the Cadillac BLS, a restyled model of the Saab 9-3.

Turkey develops national car with Saab

A senior minister has announced Turkey purchased the intellectual property rights to Saab's 9-3 model, with the goal of using it to develop a Turkish-branded car and advance in the field of extended-range vehicles.

"We bought the Saab 9-3's intellectual property rights, but not its name," Science, Industry and Technology Minister Fikri I??k said in a televised interview on Oct. 15. 

'No car is original,' minister says to defend Turkey's 'national Cadillac'

Science and Technology Minister Fikri I??k has stepped into the debate on the apparent resemblance of Turkey?s long-awaited ?national car? to the Cadillac BLS, saying ?no car is 100 percent original.?

I??k had announced on Oct. 13 that the country?s first entirely locally-made cars were under development, sharing ?camouflaged? photos of three prototypes with the public.

Turkey?s Do?an Holding has become a new distributor of Japan?s Suzuki?s car, sea vehicle and motorbike brands. 

A new subsidiary of Do?an Holding, Suzuki Motor Vehicles Marketing Co, will run the sale and after-sale operations of Suzuki brands. Suzuki had previously been represented in Turkey by Haco Group.
