Romanian Man Dies in Skiing Accident in Bulgaria's Bansko
A male Romanian skier has died after hitting a rock outside a designated ski run in the Bulgarian winter resort of Bansko, BGNES reported on Sunday.
The accident took place man about 2 p.m. on Sunday in a ravine leading to Banderitza chalet below Todorka peak, according to the Bulgarian news outlet.
Winter Season Officially Opens in Bulgaria's Borovets, Pamporovo
The new winter season was officially opened in two of Bulgaria's most popular winter resorts - Borovets and Pamporovo on Saturday.
The ski season in the other major winter resort of Bansko was opened last week with a ceremony attended by Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova, Sports Minister Krasen Kralev and a number of ski legends.
Bansko Ski Season Officially Declared Open
The resort town of Bansko on Saturday is welcoming its first ski tourists this year with a special inauguration ceremony.
Sports Minister Krasen Kralev attended the festive events which began at the new lift built in the Shiligarnika area, specialized websites report.

In both the giant slalom and cross country ski races, the Turkish competitors graciously held the bottom places.

World Ski Cup Race in Bulgaria's Bansko Cancelled over Heavy Fog
The second Super G race of the Alpine Skiing World Cup taking place in Bansko, Bulgaria, has been called off due to the thick fog.
This comes after Friday's weather conditions also imposed a reschedule, with the Friday event now set for Monday.
The Super Giant Slalom began at 11:15 EET (09:15 GMT), but came to a halt as fog fell and limited visibility.
Romanian Skier Dies in Bulgaria's Bansko
A twenty-six year old Romanian skier passed away on Friday after an incident in Bulgaria's ski resort Bansko.
The Bansko rescue service received a signal on the case today at around 11 am.
It appears that the skier has had a dangerous fall on a ski track number 11, connecting the Todorka mountain peak with the Plato valley.

Snow flakes and sugar crystals
The snowflakes glide gracefully down to the silence of the forests. As we depart from Bolu Mountains, I feel a bit deprived of the alpine spirit, not having been able to hit the slopes. The ski slopes look pathetically unpromising in snow quality; the sun is shining; it is almost spring-like; but they are spraying water up into the air just above the slopes to fall like snow.
