The Easter service was held for the first time in eight years at the historical Surp Giragos Armenian Church in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır's Sur district after it reopened for worship following restoration works.

Following seven years of renovation work, St. Giragos Church in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır is now open to offer religious services once again.
The church, heavily damaged by PKK terrorists in 2015, was reopened with a ceremony attended by Turkish Culture Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy.

The Armenian Church of Surp Giragos in Turkey?s southeastern province of Diyarbakir has been awarded the Prize for Cultural Heritage by the European Union.
?This church should be known all around the world,? the head of the Surp Giragos Church Foundation, Ergün Ay?k, said April 22.
The church was built in 1376 and restored in 2011.
