Santorini is an island best known for its volcanic complex which creates a very interesting landscape, making Santorini stand out from other islands. The last recorded volcanic activity was in 1950, with the last underwater eruption occurring in 1650; since then the majority of the volcanic complex is dormant.

Santorini as well as hotels on the Cycladic island have been included among the top choices of the Travel + Leisure magazine for holidays in Europe in 2017, in a vote by the international publication's readers.

Santorini ranked first among Europe's top islands and fifth in the world.

The European Top 10 also included Crete (fourth), Paros (fifth) and Rhodes (sixth).

Czech airline SmartWings announced it would include an additional two flights to the Greek islands of Mykonos and Santorini for the summer season of 2017. The two new routes will be Prague – Mykonos, starting from June 9 till October 3 every 10-11 days; and, Prague – Santorini from June 2 till October 6 every 10-11 days. The planes used will be either the Boeing 737-800 or the Airbus A320.
