Pontians protest at Syntagma square

The Pontian Association of Greece has organized a protest at Syntagma square at the centre of Athens.

This is the second time they gathered to protest against the statements of Minister of Education Nikos Filis who refuted the Pontic Genocide.

The Pontian Association calls all its members to participate in the protest to ask government to remove Mr. Filis from his position.

Athens welcomes Christmas on Tuesday

Athens mayor Giorgos Kaminis on Tuesday will give the signal for the official illumination of the capital of Greece, inaugurating the holiday season.

The ceremony will begin at 17:30 when two sections of the Athens Municipality Wind Instrument Philharmonic Orchestra will set off from National Resistance Square (formerly Kotzias) and Monastiraki metro station.

Violent clashes at Syntagma square – No one arrested (vid+pics)

Violence broke out during the massive strike organized by the two main Greek unions at the center of Athens.

Groups of anarchists started throwing molotov cocktails at Syntagma square, whereas violent episodes occured also at Kolokotroni square with groups of anarchists burning cars and smashing shop windows.

Sarah Jio to visit Greece for her book presentation

The journalist and writer Sarah Jio, who is best known for her romantic novels published in 22 countries, will visit Athens on the occasion of her new book presentation.

Her new novel, Violets of March, published in Greek by Psychogios will be presented at Public store at Syntagma square on Thursday 12, at 18.00 (Athens time).

Germany’s policies aren’t exactly all that popular in Greece, with anti-German sentiment on the rise and even a movement to boycott German products. One German decided to head to Syntagma Square and offer Free Hugs. Bloomberg found him by accident.

“People are very friendly,” said the comedian. “They hate Merkel and they hate Schaeuble but they don’t hate me.”
