Tear gas-scented candle to revive Gezi protest memories in Turkey

The Turkey branch of Amnesty International has sent special tear gas-scented candles to its activists and supporters in a bid to revive Gezi memories and commemorate the second anniversary of the nationwide anti-government uprising. 

Amnesty came up with the project in order to commemorate the second anniversary of the nationwide anti-government Gezi Park protests on May 31. 

Former Istanbul governor fined for defaming 17-year-old victim as 'marginal'

Istanbul?s former governor Hüseyin Avni Mutlu was fined 10,000 Turkish Liras for accusing a then-17-year-old Dilan Alp of being a member of ?marginal groups? during the May Day protests of 2013, during which she was hit in the head by a tear gas canister shot by the police.

Police who sprayed Gezi's 'woman in red' ordered to plant 600 trees

A police officer that gained notoriety for spraying pepper spray at peaceful protesters, including an academic who became known as the ?woman in red? during the outset of the Gezi Park uprising in 2013, has been sentenced to 20 months in jail and ordered to plant 600 trees.
