Storms cause damage,halt ferries services
Tempestuous weather wreaked problems in various parts of the country on Tuesday.
Andros and Tinos were left without electricity after the two power lines supplying the Aegean islands were damaged in gale-force winds.
Electricity grid operator DEDDIE said that technical crews were working to restore power to the two islands of nearly 18,000 inhabitants.

Bad weather knocks out power supply to Andros and Tinos
Andros and Tinos were left without power on Tuesday after the two lines supplying the Aegean islands were damaged as a result of bad weather in the area, supplier DEDDIE said.
According to an announcement, technical crews were working to restore supply to the two islands of nearly 18,000 inhabitants, with efforts focusing on getting a power station on Andros up and running.
Gale-force winds keep ferries moored as cold front sweeps in, bringing snow
Strong winds reaching speeds of 11 Beaufort in parts of the Aegean prevented ferry boats from sailing from the capital's ports of Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio on Monday morning and have even affected shorter routes to the Saronic Gulf island of Salamina, between the eastern port of Volos and the Sporades, and even the Igoumenitsa-Lefkimi service in the Ionian Sea.
Evia-Andros undersea electrical interconnection in operation
The Evia-Andros undersea electrical interconnection, which aims to strengthen the interconnection between the islands of Andros and Tinos and the mainland system, has been put into operation, with the Andros-Tinos section expected to be up and running next month.

Passenger ferry returns to Rafina after engine failure
A passenger ferry with 317 people onboard returned safely to the port of Rafina, east of Athens, on Wednesday after an engine failure.
The Super Runner, which also had cars and trucks on board, was traveling to the island of Santorini via the islands of Tinos, Mykonos and Paros.
Water’s circular economy project making headway on three islands
Greece is taking a lead in developing a circular economy through the European Union-funded Hydrousa project, a scientific program aimed at the extraction of water from unconventional sources to be used for irrigation and even for human consumption on the country's islands. It is now moving on from the designing stage to licensing.
