Race for the Cure to be held in Athens this Sunday

This year's Greece Race for the Cure, a fundraising event for breast cancer, will take place Sunday morning, with a number of related activities taking place in the area around Zappeion Hall in central Athens. The race has been held in the Greek capital every year since 2009 and includes a 5 kilometer run and a 2 km walk.

Roads and streets blocked off due to Macron visit in Athens

Athens will be under tight security control in the wake of French President Emmanuel Macron’s arrival at the Greek capital, Thursday. Greek police have made blocked streets and roads in the centre of Athens and surrounding routes during his stay in the Greek capital. Traffic measures have already taken effect and will last until 3pm.

Athens traffic to be disrupted due to parades

Traffic will be disrupted in downtown Athens on Friday and Saturday to make way for celebrations marking the March 25 anniversary of Greek independence from Turkish rule in 1821.

Students all over the country will be holding parades on Friday, followed by a parade of the armed forces on Saturday centered around Syntagma Square.

Traffic restrictions in Athens on Sunday for half-marathon

Traffic restrictions will be introduced in central Athens on Sunday for the Athens Half-Marathon, which starts at 9 a.m. and is expected to finish by 1.30 p.m.

Motorists should avoid the entire area around Syntagma Square, including Vassilissis Sofias Avenue, the start of Kifissias Avenue and the start of Vouliagmenis Avenue.

Parts of central Athens closed to traffic on Sunday

Much of central Athens will be closed to traffic on Sunday as cancer fundraisers take part in a 5-kilometer race and a 2 km walk as part of the 8th Greece Race for the Cure.

Traffic police will be closing off parts of Vassilissis Amalias, Syngrou and Vassilissis Sofias avenues between 9.30 a.m and 2 p.m.

The City of Athens Philharmonic will be playing for the public in the National Garden in the center of the capital on Friday, September 23. The ensemble is slated to perform a medley of popular Greek and foreign works. Starts at 6 p.m. and admission is free of charge.

5th annual Athens semi-marathon starts Sunday, March 20

Over 18,000 runners will take part in this year’s 5th annual Athens semi-marathon to take place on Sunday, March 20. Professionals, amateurs, locals and foreigners are expected to all take to the streets of Athens to test their endurance in long distance running. The race will kick off at the ‘Tomb of the Unknown Soldier’ on Amalias Avenue at 9 am on the morning Sunday, March 20.
