A coronavirus known to live in bats is the closest strain of the 2019-nCoV virus that first appeared in China's Wuhan region and has since spread to other parts of Asia, with cases reported in Europe, Australia and North America, a study by Greek scientists at Athens University and the University of Crete has revealed.

India and the Philippines announced the first cases of infection with the new coronavirus, world agencies reported.

The World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing will be postponed due to the coronavirus in China. The championship was supposed to take place from March 13 to March 15 this year, but will be moved a year later.

At the same time, by Wednesday night, the number of infected had reached 7,711, with another 12,168 cases suspected, Reuters reports.
According to the BBC, after the Tibet case, a new coronavirus has been confirmed in all Chinese regions.

Finland has announced that the country registered its first case of infection with the new coronavirus, world agencies have reported. The infected woman is a Chinese traveller who arrived from Wuhan.

The tourist is said to be a female aged 32 and in relatively good health.

Greek tourism is on alert and trying to assess the possible impact on the sector from the coronavirus outbreak in China, after receiving almost 200,000 Chinese visitors last year, according to provisional estimates.

The women returned from China and Thailand.

Two Bulgarian women are under special surveillance until it is confirmed that they do not suffer from a coronavirus. One was in China and the other was back from Thailand.

Hong Kong bans travels to mainland China because of the coronavirus. More than 100 people have already died and over 4500 are infected.

In an attempt to curb the spread of the infection, Hong Kong stops all high-speed trains and ferries to China. Germany and Japan have confirmed the first cases of infection in patients who have not traveled to the country of origin.

There have been no cases of coronavirus infections in Greece, the Medical Association of Athens (ISA) said Tuesday.

The association said it is closely monitoring the spread of the virus from China and the transmissions reported in the US, Asia and Europe.
