Official: New party from SYRIZA split called ‘Popular Unity’
The imminent and overdue split within the leftists SYRIZA party was finally formally realized, Friday, after 25 rebel SYRIZA MPs submitted a common letter to the parliament speaker announcing they were forming a new party.
Local police station attacked in Istanbul
Two armed assailants attacked a four-story police station in Istanbul early Aug. 21, but no casualties were reported.
The assailants opened fire with long-barreled weapons on the K?raç police station in the Esenyurt district of Istanbul at around 6:40 a.m. They fled the scene when police immediately responded to the attack.

Russia, Belarus, Serbia to Hold Joint Military Drills
Military exercises involving troops from Russia, Serbia and Belarus are due this year, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has said.
Shoigu made the announcement after meeting his Serbian counterpart Bratislav Gasic on Saturday.
Russian daily Kommersant quotes Shoigu as saying "much importance" is placed on the drill which will be titled "Slavic Brotherhood - 2015".
