Wind power in the United Kingdom

US offshore wind power lease sale nets record $4.3 billion

Energy companies bid a record $4.37 billion on Feb. 25 for leases to develop wind power off the U.S. east coast, authorities said, after sales key to America's renewable electricity ambitions.

The six sites are in an area called the New York Bight and total 488,000 acres (197,500 hectares), making it the biggest U.S. renewable power auction ever.

Turkey ranks as 5th biggest wind investor in Europe

Turkey has been ranked as the fifth-biggest wind power investor in Europe in 2020 with €1.6 billion, according to WindEurope's report on April 13.

The Financing and Investment Trends in the European Wind Industry in 2020 report said that investments in offshore wind farms hit a record €26.3 billion, while investments in new onshore wind farms reached €16.5 billion.

Wind energy farms set new record in 2019

Wind energy output soared to new records in 2019 in Greece, with more new wind energy farms going into operation than in any other year, Hellenic Wind Energy Association HWEA/ELEATEN said in a report released on Thursday.
The increase was almost four times the annual average rate of the previous decade, raising the total power of wind farms to more than 3,500 MW last year.

Northern Europe is Increasingly Relying on Wind Power

New energy trends are gaining strength in Europe, including rising investments in wind power. Belgium, for example, plans to double its offshore wind farms, while Denmark plans to build enough turbines to feed its seven largest cities.

A few days ago, the Belgian government announced it would allocate another large area near the French waters to build new wind farms after 2020.
