Taxpayers will be able to pay off the newly introduced unified property tax (ENFIA) in six installments, while revisions to the tax rates for 4,000 residential areas around Greece will also be made, the government decided on Tuesday, offering some clarity to one of this summer’s most controversial issues.

Some 200,000 taxpayers are still waiting for their income tax declarations, which were submitted in time, to be processed, while a number of other problems are putting the payment of the first tranche, by July 31, in jeopardy for many.

Two SYRIZA deputies have called for a deadline extension with regard to income tax declarations for 2013. The scheduled deadline is currently June 30.

 Amendments exempt students and unemployed from taxation; small firms to pay VAT after collection

A series of amendments tabled in Parliament on Friday by Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras are intended to correct the injustices of past tax bills affecting the unemployed, students and those who had particularly low incomes during 2013.
