Traffic collisions claimed the lives of 75 people across the country during the nine-day Eid holiday that commenced on April 6, the Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya has announced.

The Bulgarian government has proposed a significant change to the country's road traffic regulations, aiming to reduce the maximum speed limit on highways from 140 km/h to 130 km/h. Additionally, the amendment bill seeks to lower the speed limit on so-called public roads from 120 km/h to 110 km/h, according to the "Sega" newspaper.

Authorities in Istanbul, a bustling metropolis home to 16 million, are implementing safety measures to enhance traffic flow and prevent accidents as citizens return home following the nine-day Eid holiday.

Istanbul Police Headquarters announced a series of traffic measures to be implemented between April 5 and 15, the period of the holiday and the second-semester break.

More traffic grief is expected in central Athens on Friday as roads will gradually become impassable from 11a.m. until the afternoon-evening hours, with parallel gatherings being planned, on the occasion of the passing of the law on non-state universities and International Women's Day.

Police charged two men, aged 62 and 29, with reckless driving on Friday for excessive speeding along the Athens-Sounio national road.

According to police, the two drivers were identified via their own social media uploads, on which they had posted videos documenting their racing in Attica's Agia Marina area, where they reached speeds of up to 178 kilometers per hour.
