EODY team to visit University of Patra following third meningitis case

A team from the National Organization for Public Health (EODY) is scheduled to visit the University of Patra in western Greece on Thursday following the report of a third serious case of meningitis involving a student this year, which was reported on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old patient is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of Patra University Hospital.

'Trakia' Highway Tragedy: Man Lost His Life In Turkish Truck Collision

The 48-year-old man, who suffered the worst in the traffic accident on "Trakia" highway yesterday, has lost the battle for his life, reported the Pazardzhik Medical Center.

He died last night in the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, where he was brought after the resuscitation measures in the Emergency Department of MBAL-Pazardzhik.

Police officer hospitalized in critical condition after brutal assault by husband in Larissa

A 43-year-old woman, who is a police officer, has been hospitalized in critical condition following a brutal assault by her 52-year-old husband in the city of Larissa, central Greece. 

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday after an intense altercation that escalated, resulting in the man physically attacking his wife.

Coastal police squad patrols eastern lakes, saves lives

In the eastern province of Van and the neighboring provinces, a squad of 17 members from the Coastal Police are saving the lives of people falling in the lakes, ponds, and rivers.

The squad of the Marine Police consisting of 17 people have intervened in many drowning cases in Van, Hakkari, Bitlis, Ağrı and Iğdır so far.

Elderly at greater risk of drowning, experts warn

Drownings at sea remain quite common despite authorities' repeated warnings and guidelines. By July 20, 125 people had drowned at sea in Greece this year, official statistics show.

Of the 125, just two were minors, 18 aged 18-59 and 105 aged 60 and over. Old people have always been most likely to drown. In 2022, 386 people drowned, seven of them in swimming pools.
