One person died in a bloody incident around 1:00 p.m. Sunday on Lemessou Street in Patissia, Athens.

Gradual road closures will come into effect ahead of the 50th anniversary of the Athens Polytechnic Uprising, to be commemorated with a big rally across the city centre on Friday.

An open public tender was announced Thursday for the restoration of the building in Athens that will house the Maria Callas Academy of Lyrical Art.

Due to the May 1 union rallies, large parts of central Athens city center will be closed to traffic Monday and public transport services will be limited.

All three Metro lines and tram services will be shut down all day, as employees stage a 24-hour stoppage.

There is a problem with the incident of the police officer who unnecessarily fired his weapon outside the Athens University of Economics and Business in central Athens. The videos that have circulated on social media do not show the gun-toting officer being surrounded by numerous thugs, which would justify his action as legitimate defense.

Fresh tension erupted outside the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) on central Patission Street on Thursday, as a group of approximately 35 individuals emerged from the premises and created makeshift barricades using trash bins that were set on fire, according to reports.

The police reportedly responded by using tear gas. 

The Hellenic Police opened a disciplinary inquiry on Wednesday into an officer who shot four rounds in the air after he was attacked by black-clad youths in a densely populated district in central Athens earlier in the day.

Clashes erupted outside the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) on Patission Avenue on Wednesday when a group of approximately 35 individuals wearing hoods came out of the campus and barricaded both lanes of traffic with burning trash containers, according to reports.

Students and pupils are expressing anger over the train collision in Tempe, northern Greece on February 28 with occupations and mobilizations at universities nationwide. 

In Athens, occupations are form around the emblematic university buildings in the city center by student groups.

Investment fever is spreading on Aiolou Street, Athinas Street and Kotzia Square to Patision Street and the National Archaeological Museum, with investors maintaining high expectations for the return of the area to its bygone glory.
