Torrential rains and storms swept across the Marmara Region on Dec. 16, resulting in overflowing streams and canceled ferry services.
Due to the rain and storm that started to take effect in Istanbul in the morning hours, trees were toppled, billboards and panels were overturned, sea transportation was disrupted and heavy traffic was experienced.

Satellite cities to be established in Istanbul to relocate risky buildings
Within the scope of preparation for the major earthquake expected in the Marmara region, 500,000 of the 1.5 million risky residences in Istanbul will be rebuilt on-site, and satellite cities of 500,000 residences will be established on both sides of the megacity to relocate the rest, Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum has announced.

A woman has been burned to death by a man in Istanbul, as the nation grows angry, but is no longer shocked at the growing number of femicides claiming the lives of women.
Aylin Sözer, an academic at an Istanbul university, became one of the last women to be murdered by a man in Turkey.
Bibliophile Turks prefer novels during lockdown
Turkish bibliophiles have been buying novels mostly since a partial lockdown came on March 16, according to data shared by the Istanbul Statistics Office, one of the newly established departments of the municipality.
The office shared the statistics of 100,000 books purchased online from Istanbul Bookstore.
