During the economic crisis, the state asset hyperfund seemed like the perfect solution for ridding Greek taxpayers of the burden of a public sector that had been proven time and again to be a terrible business manager. Developments since have not vindicated that optimism.

Microsoft cuts 7,800 jobs, reorganizes phone unit

Microsoft announced plans July 8 to cut 7,800 jobs along with a reorganization of its Windows Phone unit which has struggled in the mobile market.

The move represents the second major round of layoffs in a year for Microsoft, which cut some 18,000 jobs a year ago as part of its effort to integrate the Nokia handset division.

Nokia agrees 15.6 bn euro deal to buy Alcatel-Lucent

Nokia has struck a 15.6 billion euro deal to buy its rival Alcatel-Lucent to create the world's biggest supplier of mobile phone network equipment, both companies said April 15.
     
The Finnish telecom giant has agreed to give shareholders in its Franco-American rival 0.55 shares in the new merged company for every one of their own.
