Natural gas reserves in Iran

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Thursday launched Türkiye's first delivery from a Black Sea gas reserve a few weeks ahead of a general election, as Ankara aims towards energy independence.

The natural gas discovered in the Black Sea will meet the consumption of households in Türkiye for 33 years, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez has said.

The production from the Black Sea field will reach its peak level in four years, which will help the country reduce its natural gas imports, he added.

Türkiye is holding talks with Oman for natural gas trade, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez has said.
The minister recalled he engaged in diplomatic efforts for energy last month, visiting several countries amid the sharp increase in global energy prices.

Turkey imported a total of 4.7 billion cubic meters natural gas in November 2018, with a decline of 13.8 compared to the same month of the previous year.

Turkey's daily natural gas consumption reached a historic record high at 245 million cubic meters on Jan. 8, the energy minister said on Jan. 9.

Iran is seeking to extend engagement with Turkish companies especially in upstream and downstream projects, a top Iranian energy official said on July 12.        

Iran has found a dozen new oil fields that could produce 30 billion barrels of crude and 128 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, according to Press TV quoting officials in Tehran.

Turkmenistan halted gas supplies to Iran on Jan. 1 amid tensions between the two countries over arrears, the Iranian National Gas Company was quoted by oil ministry news agency Shana as saying.

"The gas company of Turkmenistan has cut gas exports to Iran, contrary to the agreement reached, by demanding immediate payment of arrears," Shana cited an official statement as saying.

Iran will offer three gas fields to foreign investors at a conference in London later this year, an Iranian official said on Aug. 26.
