The European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) highlighted dire conditions at Korydallos Psychiatric Hospital for prisoners in a report issued on Thursday after an ad hoc visit last November. 

The Council of Europe's anti-torture committee has called on EU external border state Croatia to stop police ill-treatment of migrants and asylum seekers in its borders.

On Friday, its report called on authorities to take "determined action to stop migrants from being ill-treated by police officers and to ensure that cases of alleged ill-treatment are investigated effectively".

This government is evidently capable of showing determination and consistency in the face of crises. Beyond the pandemic and Turkey's belligerence, though, it also has to deal with the consequences of decades of mismanagement in many fields.

Greece must urgently reform its prison system and end police violence, the Council of Europe's anti-torture committee said in its report compiled after a visit to prisons in the country in 2019.
