Dacic: Government not pursuing policy of treason

BELGRADE - The Serbian government is not pursuing a policy of treason and it is not acting as an accomplice in creating an independent Kosovo, FM Ivica Dacic said in the parliament Wednesday.

Dacic was responding to objections from opposition MPs who had said the government was practically recognising Kosovo's independence by setting up the Western Balkans Fund.

"We are not pursuing a policy of treason, those are words that you have used, and that is not fair. Some will say we are sacrificing the European path - we are not sacrificing it, but slowing it down on purpose. We do not have to open some chapters at all costs if giving away Serbia's property in Telekom is a condition for that," Dacic said.

The government must save "what can be saved, and one must be realistic about this," he said.
