Turkish security forces on Feb. 24 detained five YPG/PKK terrorists during simultaneous operations in northern Syria, the Defense Ministry said.

The terrorists were plotting terror attack while hiding in houses in Tal Abyad, a Syrian district which falls within the area of Turkey's anti-terror "Operation Peace Spring," the ministry said in a statement.

Turkish authorities have averted a major terrorist attack by defusing a powerful bomb planted at a courthouse.

More than half a dozen suspects have been arrested in connection with the foiled bombing plot at a district court in the southeastern Şırnak province.

Turkish police on Jan. 7 detained 12 PKK and DHKP-C terror suspects during a counter-terrorism operation in the western İzmir province.

The suspects were accused of spreading terrorist propaganda on social media platforms, said the source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

A sea otter, classified as "near-threatened" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), has been spotted in the southeastern province of Şırnak near the İkizce Creek at the foot of Mount Judi.

Two shepherds who were abducted by PKK terrorists in southeastern Şırnak province were found dead on July 9.

Turkey started its military manoeuvers in the southeastern district of Silopi on Sept. 18, a week ahead of the referendum on independence in northern Iraq.        

The Turkish Armed Forces on Sept. 23 increased the level of a drill it has been conducting near the Iraqi border for the past six days as additional troops were deployed. According to military sources, the drill was increased to the "second phase" on Sept. 23.

The Turkish army said it launched a military exercise on Turkey-Iraq border on Sept. 18, just a week before the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) is set to hold a referendum on independence.
