Police officer killed in clashes with PKK militants

One police officer was killed on Jan. 22 during clashes with outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants in the Cizre district of southeastern ??rnak province.

Special operations police officer Bayram Özdere was killed when PKK militants opened fire during intense clashes in the district's Sur neighborhood.

Schoolyard blast wounds five students in Turkey's southeast

Militants of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) have detonated an improvised explosive device near a schoolyard in the southeastern province of Diyarbak?r, wounding five students.

The blast took place at 8.24 a.m. on Jan. 22 at the Nuriye Eser Primary School in Diyarbak?r's Ba?lar district during the distribution of report cards on the last school day of the first semester.

No grade reports for 81,000 students in under-curfew southeastern towns

More than 81,000 students in three southeastern Turkish towns will not be able get their half term grade reports on Jan. 22, as education has been suspended in the towns since Dec. 14, 2015. 

Some 17.5 million students across Turkey will enter their 15-day-long semester break on Jan. 22, when they will receive their grade reports. 

Drone used by PKK found in southeast Turkey

Turkish security forces have found a drone used by outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants, during a search conducted as part of post-curfew operations in the southeastern town of Silopi, private broadcaster CNNTürk has reported.

The curfew imposed on Silopi, a district in the ??rnak province, back on Dec. 14 last year was partially lifted on Jan. 19.
