Turkey on Jan. 5 welcomed the outcome of the 41st Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit held in Saudi Arabia, which saw reconciliation between Gulf states.

Gulf leaders signed a "solidarity and stability" deal on Jan. 5 after the leaders of Saudi Arabia and Qatar publicly embraced, bringing Doha back into the regional fold after a three-year rift.

Saudi Arabia will reopen its borders and airspace to Qatar, U.S. and Kuwaiti officials said on Jan. 4, a major step towards ending a diplomatic rift that has seen Riyadh lead an alliance isolating Doha.

Turkey on Jan. 4 welcomed the end of a nearly three-year feud between Qatar and Saudi Arabia, as the two countries have agreed to reopen their airspace and borders.

"We welcome the agreement made to open land, sea, and air borders between Qatar and Saudi Arabia as of tonight," said a Turkish Foreign Ministry statement.

The ATP confirmed an updated schedule to the start of the new tennis season, which includes a delayed Australian Open which will now start 3 weeks later than planned. The ATP released the fixtures for the first 7 weeks during which the annual ATP 250 event in Maharashtra will not be held as scheduled.

Turkish athlete Göksu Üçtaş Şanlı won the silver medal in seniors' floor in the Women's Artistic Gymnastics 2020 European Championships in the Mediterranean province of Mersin on Dec. 20.

Şanlı racked up a total of 13,100 points to come in second in the seniors final.

Istanbul Airport gained top global recognition on Dec. 15 by being named a 5-star airport by London-based air transport rating agency Skytrax, the mega-airport said in a statement.

Rivals Qatar and Saudi Arabia, along with neutral Oman and Kuwait, said on Dec. 4 progress had been made towards resolving the Gulf crisis that has pitted a regional group of nations against Doha.

Turkish presidential spokesman İbrahim Kalın on Dec. 3 welcomed U.S. special representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad, the presidency said in a statement.

In a meeting at the presidential complex in the capital Ankara, the two discussed the ongoing intra-Afghan peace talks in Doha, Qatar, which are aimed at ending 19 years of war, as well as regional issues.

The acquisition of a 10% share in Turkish stock exchange Borsa Istanbul by the Qatari state Investment Authority was completed on Nov. 30.

According to a statement from the Turkiye Wealth Fund (TWF), the transaction size of $200 million implies a total equity value of $2 billion.
