Drug ring member arrested in Grevena
Greek police in the northern city of Grevena said Friday they had detained a member of a network that has been trafficking huge quantities of drugs into Greece from Albania.
The suspect, a 32-year-old foreign national, was arrested on charges of hiding 271 kilos of hashish in a shed in a village near Grevena.

State of emergency declared in Grevena, Deskati due to heavy snow
Authorities in northern Greece have declared a state of emergency in the municipalities of Grevena and Deskati due to the disruptions caused by the recent intense snowfall.
The emergency status will last for one month until snow is cleared from roads leading to rural areas and from dozens of mountain villages that have been cut off.

Policemen detained over charges of facilitating irregular migration
Two police guards serving at the Evros border post in northeastern Greece were remanded in custody on Monday pending trial on charges of facilitating the illegal entry of undocumented migrants into Greece.
The two men, who were arrested last Thursday, were transferred to prison in the town of Grevena after appearing before a prosecutor in Alexandroupoli.
Transfer of refugees to mainland gets under way
Amid NGOs' scathing criticism of living conditions at the Moria migrant reception center on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos, some 217 asylum seekers were transferred to the mainland on Friday as efforts to reduce the overcrowding at the shelter got under way.

Avalanche kills snowboarder in northern Greece
Greek authorities say an avalanche has killed a snowboarder who was using a closed-off piste at a northern ski resort.
Police say the 32-year-old Greek man was snowboarding with a group of friends at the Vasilitsa ski resort, near the town of Grevena, when the avalanche struck Friday.
The other members of the group were safe.

Leader of party ’To Potami’ Stavros Theodorakis underlined the need to support the agricultural sector of Greece during his pre-election campaign trip to the town of Grevena in Western Macedonia, Saturday. Theodorakis visited pasture lands and animal pens and talked with 40 local stock breeders who briefed him on the problems they are facing and ways to tackle them.
