Israeli troops early on Oct. 20 destroyed the West Bank home of a Palestinian jailed for killing a Jewish settler in a knife attack late last year, the army said.

Israel on Sept.24 defended the actions of its soldiers who shot dead an 18-year-old Palestinian woman at a checkpoint in the West Bank as questions swirled over the events that led to the killing.

A Palestinian woman who was shot by Israeli troops on Sept. 22 has succumbed to her injuries, the Palestinian Ma'an news agency has reported.

An Israeli military spokesperson said the woman had been shot at an army checkpoint in the West Bank city of Hebron after trying to stab an Israeli soldier.

The Isarel military said forces opened fire and "identified a hit." 

Israeli troops shot dead a Palestinian during an arrest operation in the occupied West Bank on July 23, a hospital official said, the second killing within 24 hours.

Falah Abu Maria, 50, was shot in the chest in the village of Beit Omar near the southern city of Hebron, neighbours said.    

A Palestinian teenager was seriously wounded by Israeli gunfire in the West Bank, his family said Dec. 30, with the army saying he had thrown a suspected explosive device at troops.        

Israel police rounded up eight Jewish extremists from a racist anti-Arab organisation overnight, a spokeswoman said early Dec. 21, in the second such swoop targeting the group within a week.

The suspects were rounded up in a series of raids across central and southern Israel and the occupied West Bank, police spokeswoman Luba Samri said.

Israeli troops shot and killed a Palestinian demonstrator in clashes in the West Bank on Nov. 11 as Israel tightened security following a pair of attacks that took two Israeli lives the day before.

Clashes erupted near the city of Hebron where about 150 Palestinian demonstrators were throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails at Israeli soldiers, the army said.

Israel said Sept. 5 it published tenders for 283 new homes in a West Bank settlement, just days after announcing its biggest land grab on occupied Palestinian territory for three decades.
      
The expansion of the Elkana settlement, in the northwest of the West Bank, was approved in January and the tenders published Thursday, Israel's Land Authority said on its website.

Israel launched more than 20 aerial attacks in Gaza on August 9, killing five Palestinians, and militants fired rockets at Israel as the conflict entered a second month, defying international efforts to negotiate an agreement for an extended ceasefire.
