Dubai airport 2015 traffic up 10.7 percent, world's largest for int'l passengers

Dubai International Airport remained the world's busiest for international passengers in 2015 as traffic grew 10.7 percent, boosted by the addition of new airlines and routes, the airport's operator said on Feb. 1. 

Annual traffic rose to 78 million passengers from 70.5 million in 2014. In the month of December alone, traffic climbed 8.5 percent to 7.05 million people. 

Istanbul ranks ninth in world's top destinations list

Istanbul took ninth place, and Antalya was ranked 11th in Euromonitor's "Top 100 City Destinations" list, a report which monitors the number of international tourist arrivals has said.

Artvin, a Black Sea destination in Turkey's northeast, was placed at number 100 in the list, which was released Jan. 29.

Germany proposes short-term jobs for half a million Syrians

Germany proposes creating up to 500,000 short-term jobs to help Syrian refugees survive in overburdened Middle Eastern host countries, the minister for economic cooperation said during a visit to Jordan on Jan. 26.

Germany will raise the idea at next week's annual Syria aid conference in London, Gerd Mueller told The Associated Press.

Airplane Performs Emergency Landing at Sofia Airport Due to Drunk Passenger

An airplane conducting a flight between London and Beirut performed an emergency landing at Sofia airport on Tuesday evening due to an aggressive drunk passenger on board.

Under the influence of alcohol, the passenger started to behave aggressively with crew members and other passengers and according to some reports embroiled in a fight with another passenger.

UK and Germany agree 'more work' to do on EU reform deal

British Prime Minister David Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Jan. 25 stressed that "more work" was needed to strike a deal on reforms to the European Union ahead of London's in/out referendum.

The two leaders spoke by telephone, also discussing Europe's migrant crisis, according to a statement from Cameron's Downing Street office.
