South Stream puts Serbia in conflict with EU

BELGRADE - Companies South Stream Serbia and Centar Gas from Russia signed the Contract on the construction of the Serbian section of the main South Stream gas pipeline to the total value of EUR 2.1 billion.

The contract was signed by co-directors of South Stream Serbia Dusan Bajatovic and Aleksandar Siromjatin and Director General of Centre Gas Stanislav Anikeyev on Tuesday.

Contract signed to build South Stream in Serbia

BELGRADE -- South Stream Serbia and Russia's Centrgaz on Tuesday signed a contract on building the section of the South Stream pipeline through the Serbian territory.

“South Stream is very important for Bulgaria and south-eastern Europe,” Bulgarian Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin said after talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Sofia on Monday.

Centrgaz, a subsidiary of Gazprom, could step in the construction of the South Stream pipeline's Bulgarian stretch, according to a Russian daily.

Vedomosti's website reports that Centrgaz, which has not fallen under EU or US sanctions over the Ukraine crisis, has already won the tender for South Stream in Bulgaria's western neighbor Serbia.

Gazprom chief Alexey Miller made clear that first supplies through the South Stream gas pipeline are to be in end-2015, as previously planned.
