Divided over Ukraine war, Slovakia votes for president

Slovakia will on Saturday hold the first round of a presidential election that is a battle between the Central European country's Russia-leaning ruling camp and a pro-Ukraine opposition-backed candidate.

Parliament speaker Peter Pellegrini and liberal ex-foreign minister Ivan Korcok are the clear frontrunners among nine contenders.

Serbian financial sector expects 8 pct inflation in January 2024

BELGRADE - According to the results of an Ipsos survey, the Serbian financial sector expects one-year ahead inflation (in January 2024) to be 8 pct, unchanged for a fourth consecutive month, the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) has said.

According to the February Bloomberg survey, one-year ahead inflation expectations are lower, at 7.0 pct, the central bank said in a statement.

Serbia: Second term for Vucic, SPP wins about 40%

The results of Serbia's presidential and parliamentary elections show that Aleksandar Vucic and his Serbian Progressive Party (SPP) have won convincing victories.

In a joint forecast, election observer CeSID and the sociological organization Ipsos predict that Vucic will win a second five-year term as president, receiving almost 60% of the vote.
