Renowned Turkish linguist Necmiye Alpay and former European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) judge Rıza Türmen were among the participants of the main opposition Republican People's Party's (CHP) justice march from Ankara to Istanbul on July 4, its 20th day. 

Turkish novelist Aslı Erdoğan, arrested in August on terror charges as part of the investigation into closed daily Özgür Gündem, is at risk of being paralyzed while in jail, main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy Utku Çakırözer has said. 

An Istanbul court on Nov. 23 ordered the release of imprisoned novelist Aslı Erdoğan and linguist Necmiye Alpay, who were both arrested on terror charges as part of an investigation into closed daily Özgür Gündem, on one charge but ruled for the continuation of their arrest on another charge. 

An Istanbul court has accepted an indictment against journalist Can Dündar on charges of "printing and publishing terrorist organizations' statements" during his one-day editorial duty undertaken in solidarity with a now-closed daily newspaper.

A lawmaker from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has said jailed writers in Turkey should be tried without arrest.
