REJECTED Kosovo failed to become a member of UNESCO

UNESCO has not accepted Kosovo as a member; the proposal failed to gain a two-thirds majority at the organization's General Conference in Paris on Monday.

142 countries voted - 92 in favor, 50 against, while 29 abstained. Pristina's bid required 95 votes in favor to be successful.

 

Voting for the Nov 1 polls starts abroad and at customs gates

Voting for the snap elections on Nov. 1 has started at Turkey's representatives in foreign countries and at border gates across the country. 

A total of 2,895,885 Turkish citizens living abroad are eligible to vote either at 112 foreign representative offices in 54 countries or at 30 customs gates on Turkey's borders and international airports. 

Bahrain seizes arms, arrests suspects for 'Iran and Iraq links'

Authorities in Bahrain said they had uncovered a large stash of weapons and arrested a number of people suspected of having links with Iran and Iraq.
 
A statement late Sept.30 published on the interior ministry's website said arms and explosives were discovered in a house in the mainly Shiite town of Nuwaidrat, south of the capital Manama.
