Refugee: Gov’t remains idle while chaos prevails

The Greek government seems to be unable to deal with the refugee issue, with authorities trying to remove the refugees and immigrants from the makeshift camps of Idomeni and Piraeus with no success.

The refugees refuse leaving the camps protesting against the closed borders and demand to be allowed to continue their journey to Europe.

Five migrants drown off Greek island of Samos after boat capsizes

Five migrants - four women and one child - drowned when their boat capsized off the Greek island of Samos close to Turkey's coast, Greek coast guard officials said on April 9. 

Five other migrants were rescued, the officials said, and coast guard vessels assisted by a helicopter were searching for more survivors. 

Istanbul police seize guns at anti-drug association linked to ISIL

Istanbul police on April 8 seized seven shotguns and 16 handguns at a youth association which is suspected to have links with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

Police raided the ?ehremini Youth and anti-Drug Association in the Fatih district and the homes of its founders upon an anonymous tip that guns were stashed in the association's building. 

Moody's keeps Turkey's rating

The global rating agency Moody's has kept Turkey's credit rating unchanged, it was announced late on April 8.

Turkey's "Baa3" credit rating and negative outlook were kept in the report.        

Moody's release calendar for sovereigns designates three dates for the potential release of credit rating actions, first of which was on April 8.        

Israel sharpens Turkey travel warning over 'immediate threats'

Israel on April 8 reissued and accentuated a warning to its citizens to avoid Turkey over the "immediate risks" of attacks, weeks after three Israelis were killed in an Istanbul suicide bombing.

"Following a situational assessment, we are reiterating and sharpening the high level of threat in Turkey," the counter terrorism bureau said.

Ground operation in Syria?

Turkey's top election body refuses blame on massive data leak

Turkey's top election authority has refused to take the blame for the leak of a database which appeared to contain personal information on nearly 50 million Turkish citizens, while a member of the main opposition party has suggested the leak was "an operation" by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) government aiming to control the election system.
