Global warming changes biodiversity of Mediterranean Sea
Local fish population has been declining in the Mediterranean Sea, while tropical species migrating from the Suez Canal and the Indian Ocean have been on the rise, according to a Turkish marine scientist.
The migration continues rapidly, and global warming is one of the reasons triggering the migration movements, said Mehmet Gökoğlu from Akdeniz University.
Inscription unearthed in ancient city of Patara
An excavation team in the ancient city of Patara, located in Turkey's Mediterranean coast, unearthed an inscription in an ancient theater.
Located in the Kaş district of southwestern Antalya province, Patara is known as the capital of the ancient Lycian civilization, which consisted of 23 cities in the middle of the first century BC.

Project against puffer fish delights local fishermen
Turkey's Agriculture and Forestry Ministry has started a project against the poisonous puffer fish, which started being seen in the country since the 2000's and invaded the Mediterranean coast.
Fishermen will receive five Turkish Liras (80 U.S. cents) from the authorities in exchange for a tail of the puffer fish they caught within the scope of the project.
Portrait at Antalya Museum belongs to Sappho
A portrait sculpture which has been in the Antalya Museum since 1972 belongs to Sappho, known as the first and most important female poet of the ancient period, according to Havva İşkan Işık, a professor of archaeology at Akdeniz University in the southern province of Antalya.

Initiated in 1988, the excavations in Patara have been carried out by Akdeniz University Head of Archaeology Department Professor Havva Işık and her team.
