Turkish university students develop house robot
A team of five students from a Turkish university have designed a robot which can work as a babysitter, a watchman or even a personal alarm bell.
Ankara-based Bilkent University students Muhammed Akbulut, Hüseyin Furkan Bozkurt, Suleiman Aijaz Memon, Hamed Mohammadi and Fahrettin Ömer Uyar, have named their creation Arbo.

Academics from top universities in Turkey have told the Education Ministry that evolutionary theory is excluded from curriculum "only in Saudi Arabia," after the ministry removed the subject from its formal new curriculum.

It is pleasing that there were massive reactions to the ugly attack experienced by nurse Ayşegül Terzi because of what she was wearing… This shows that, in our society, the culture of coexistence and diversity is developing now even though it is not yet adequate.
Whether or not the attacker is schizophrenic is for the Forensic Medicine Institute to determine.

Istanbul's history needs protection amid modernization: Academics
Istanbul must preserve its identity and integrate its past into modernity, academics said during a two-day symposium on cities and architecture in Turkey's largest metropolis.
"Is the modern simply going to erase the past? Or are there efforts to integrate the past into the modern?" James McClellan, a professor of history and science at the Stevens Institute in New Jersey, asked.
Gö?ü? named new Hürriyet CEO
Ça?lar Gö?ü?, a board member at daily Hürriyet newspaper, has been appointed the new chief executive officer of the company, replacing Ahmet Özer, Hürriyet has said in a filing to the stock exchange.
Özer will remain as a board member, the filing said.

Six Turkish universities rank in top 20 in emerging Europe and Central Asia countries
Six Turkish universities have placed in the top 20 of a university ranking list taking into consideration 20 nations from emerging Europe and Central Asia (EECA).
A total of 12 universities made the top 100 in the list compiled by the QS Emerging Europe and Central Asia (EECA) University Rankings for the education year of 2015/2016.
Turkey spends $2bln on R&D activities in 2014
The Turkish government spent slightly less on research and development (R&D) last year compared with the previous year, according to a report from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜIK) on June 18.
Allocation for R&D activities fell 3.73 percent to $2 billion, the report said.

3 universities from Turkey ranked in 'best young universities' list
Three Turkish universities - Koç, Sabanc? and Bilkent - have been ranked among the world?s best 100 universities of less than 50 years of age by the Times Higher Education (THE) magazine.
The universities were listed in the THE?s fourth annual ?100 Under 50? list for 2015 on April 30.
