Juncker rebukes Greece's Tsipras, urges swift proposals

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker accused Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Sunday of distorting proposals by international creditors for a cash-for-reform deal to save Athens from default and urged him to put forward alternative proposals swiftly to allow negotiations this week.

A new trilateral meeting between Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande is to take place in Brussels on Wednesday. The meeting was decided following a half-hour teleconference call between Tsipras, Merkel and Hollande shortly before 9 p.m. on Saturday, on the eve of the G7 summit.

Juncker turns down phone call from Greek PM, but SYRIZA denies this

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was spurned by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Saturday because Athens had not sent in reform proposals that it promised for Thursday. The EU official confirmed that Tsipras had requested a phone call for 11.00 CET on Saturday but Juncker declined due to a lack of progress in discussions.
