Rebel MPs opt out of SMC meeting

Ljubljana – Speaker Igor Zorčič and the head of the Modern Centre Party (SMC) deputy group Janja Sluga said they would not take part in yesterday’s session of the SMC council, pointing to alliances party leader Zdravko Počivalšek was forging behind the scenes. The council’s meeting meanwhile ended with the party closing ranks around Počivalšek.

Former Bosnian Refugee to Become Austria’s New Justice Minister

A Bosnian-born woman who came to Austria as a child refugee will be Austria's new Justice Minister, it was confirmed on Thursday.

Thirty-five-year-old Alma Zadic, a lawyer and member of the Green Party, will also be the youngest Justice Minister in Austrian history and the first to come from an immigrant background.

Center-right opposition claims victory in Lithuania vote, to start coalition talks

Lithuania's center-right opposition Peasants and Greens party declared victory after a second round of voting in a general election on Oct. 23 and said it would start negotiations with the Homeland Union and Social Democrats over forming a coalition government.
