PM Aleksandar Vucic to Run for Serbian Presidency

Vucic became the immediate favourite to win the Serbian presidency after the Progressive Party leadership named him as its favoured candidate on Tuesday.

In an interview with public broadcaster RTS after the decision was announced, Vucic portrayed himself as the candidate who could save the country from destruction by the opposition.

Serbia Ombudsman Resigns to Run for President

While most political parties in Serbia, including the ruling Progressives, have yet to name their candidates for April's presidential elections, Sasa Jankovic officially launched his presidential campaign on Tuesday.

"In the name of the citizens, I want to be the president of Serbia as the protector of all of us," Jankovic said. 

Mustafa Calls Serbia's Role in Kosovo 'Destructive'

The ethnic Serbian party in Kosovo's coalition government, Srpska Lista, on Wednesday stated that following a request from Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, it would again freeze its participation in Kosovo institutions.

The party also said that Mirjana Jevtic, who last week replaced Ljubomir Maric as Minister for Local Government, will resign from her post.

Putin Expresses Interest in Serbia Presidential Race

Russia's President Vladimir Putin has written to President Tomislav Nikolic of Serbia saying that the Kremlin will follow the 2017 Serbian presidential election "with full attention".

In the letter handed to Nikolic by Russian ambassador to Belgrade Aleksandar Chepurin, Putin confirmed Russia's wish to continue a strategic partnership.
