Over 8000 Bulgarian soldiers served in the longest mission of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to date - that in Afghanistan.

The Romanian Supreme Defence Council (CSAT) at its meeting on Tuesday approved that the Army should dispatch 895 troops to missions and operations outside the Romanian territory next year, while the Interior Ministry will participate 1,183 military and policemen in missions sponsored by NATO, EU, OSCE and the United Nations.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has appointed Ambassador Ä°smail Aramaz as the next NATO senior civilian representative (SCR) in Afghanistan, the alliance said in a written statement Nov 17.

Aramaz, who is currently Turkey’s ambassador to Afghanistan, is expected to take up his new post early next year, it added.
