PERTH - The Serbia national tennis team is out of the United Cup after Natalija Stevanovic lost 6-1, 6-1 to Australia's Ajla Tomljanovic in Perth on Wednesday.

Winning after only 65 minutes of play, Tomljanovic handed Australia a decisive 2-0 lead in the quarter-final tie against Serbia.

Stevanovic was a stand-in for Olga Danilovic.

Serena Williams has given birth to a baby girl, she posted on Aug. 22 on Instagram, almost exactly a year after her last match as a tennis star.

Adira River Ohanian is the second child — and second daughter — for the 41-year-old Williams and her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. Their first, Olympia, was born in 2017.

Three Romanian tennis players: Irina Begu, Andreea Mitu and Raluca Olaru advanced to the second round of the women's doubles event at the US Open, the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, after wins on Thursday in New York. Irina Begu and Andreea Mitu beat the Caroline Garcia (France) / Nadia Podoroska (Argentina) duo 6-4 7-6 (4), in an hour and 45 minutes.

Croatia's Ajla Tomljanovic upset third seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 6-4, 6-4 in the third round of the French Open on Friday.
      
The defeat means that the tournament's top three seeds have been ousted inside six days, with top seed Serena Williams losing in the second round and second seed Li Na departing in the first.
      

CHARLESTON - Serbia's Jelena Jankovic got off to a winning start at the WTA tennis tournament in Charleston by beating Lauren Davis of the United States 6-0, 6-3 early Thursday.

In the next round of the USD 710,000 tournament, Serbia's highest-ranked female tennis player will face Ajla Tomljanovic of Croatia, who beat Zhang Shuai 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
