Russia outraged by award for photo of Turkey ambassador killing
The Russian Embassy in Ankara on Feb. 14 expressed anger over the awarding of the prestigious World Press Photo Award for an image of an off-duty Turkish policeman assassinating the Russian envoy to Turkey last year.
Hürriyet caricaturist Latif Demirci awarded by Progressive Journalists Association
Famous Hürriyet caricaturist Latif Demirci was awarded with the best caricature award by the Progressive Journalists Association (ÇGD) for his work "Chequered Judge" during an award ceremony on Feb. 13.
A solidarity award was given to journalist Ahmet Şık, who was arrested at the end of December 2016, on behalf of all imprisoned journalists.

Associated Press photographer Burhan Özbilici has won the 2017 World Press Photo competition for his image of a gun-wielding off-duty Turkish police officer standing over the body of Russia's ambassador Andrei Karlov, whom he had just fatally shot.

Journalists' reflexes override fear. While people run away from bullets, journalists deliberately head toward the place where the bullets are coming from. The same happened on the evening the Russian Ambassador to Ankara Andrey Karlov was attacked.
