Five healthcare professionals of the Bucharest-based Matei Bals Institute of Infectious Diseases got infected with the novel coronavirus, the manager of the healthcare facility, Adrian Streinu-Cercel, told AGERPRES on Thursday. According to him, it is about two doctors, a nurse, a biochemist and an assistive worker. Of the five, one doctor is symptomatic.

The Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the official coronavirus communication task force, has reported two more deaths from novel coronavirus infection in Romania: a 75-year-old woman and an 84-year-old woman. The first is from Neamt County, admitted on March 28 to the Piatra Neamt County Hospital for intensive care.

As many as 72 medical staff of the nephrology unit of the Sf. Ioan Hospital in Bucharest have been put in isolation after a patient tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the Health Ministry reported on Wednesday in a press statement. Nine residents working at the same unit were also put in isolation.

Three more Romanians infected with the novel coronavirus, namely two in France and one in the UK, have died abroad, and the number of Romanian citizens abroad who tested positive for COVID-19 stands at 94, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) informs.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Romania passed the 2,000 mark Monday evening, moving the country to stage four in the fight against the disease. Top emergency management official Raed Arafat, announced that more than 2,100 positive COVID-19 cases were confirmed, of which 593 were in the city of Suceava.
