Bulgaria marks the 165 anniversary since the birth of one of the country's most important political figures, Stefan Stambolov.

Wreaths were laid at Stambolov's monuments in his native city of Veliko Tarnovo and in the capital Sofia.

On November 30, 2018 (Friday) in the park in front of the National Palace of Culture, the lights of the festive Christmas tree of Sofia will be lit. 

Christmas lights on the tree will be turned on at 19:00 local time (EET).

Starting 17:00, a series of concerts and musical performances will take place on a stage put up next to the tree. 

The municipality of Sofia promises to finish the repair before the first school day. Today one of the key boulevards in the capital - Bulgaria is expected to be opened, BNT said.

The first Siemens train of the 20 to be on the third line of the metro has arrived in Sofia. It came to the capital on 25 June and was transported during the night, the mayor of Yordanka Fandakova said.

Hristo Botev was born in Kalofer in the family of the teacher Botyo Petkov and Ivanka Boteva. He was a Bulgarian poet and national revolutionary.

Sofia has two new pedestrian zones - the section of Vitosha Boulevard in front of the Courthouse, from Alabin Street to the traffic lights on Stamboliyski Blvd. and Georg Washington Street between Pirotska Street and Trapezitsa Str.

The speed is limited to 30 km/h in the space between Alabin str., Hristo Botev boulevards, Vasil Levski, Tsar Osvoboditel and Lege Str.

Sofia municipality plans to introduce a speed limit on the movement of cars in the center of Sofia to 30 km h. The proposal was accepted by the Committee on Transport, reports Sega. 

Sirens are to go off across Bulgaria on Tuesday noon to commemorate the anniversary of the death of poet and revolutionary Hristo Botev.

Bulgaria's capital Sofia will have a living Christmas tree for the first time and will light it up on Thursday, the local administration says.

Unlike previous years, the tree is not located in front of the Sofia Municipality building, near the Sofia Court House.
