UN high commissioner for refugees visits Turkey

U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi pays a working visit to Turkey to discuss migration and refugee-related subjects in the meetings, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Sept. 8.

Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu discussed the latest developments in Afghanistan, migration management, and humanitarian aid to refugees with Grandi.

'Turkey holds nearly 95,000 irregular migrants this year'

Turkey has held nearly 95,000 irregular migrants since the start of this year, the country's deputy interior minister said on Sept. 6.

A total of 94,915 irregular migrants, including 40,098 Afghans, have been held since the beginning of the year, Ismail Çataklı told a monthly news conference in the capital Ankara.

Foreign trade volume up 3.6 pct in Q1

Turkey's foreign trade volume grew 3.6 percent year-on-year to $98.4 billion in the first quarter of 2020, according to a preliminary Trade Ministry data released on April 2.

The country's exports volume was choked off by coronavirus in January-March after seeing 4 percent rise in the first two months, the ministry said in a statement. 

Manchester bombing: 3 Arrested in South Manchester

Police in Manchester say they have arrested three more men in connection with the suicide bombing at a pop concert that killed 22 people, according to CBC News.

They said Wednesday the arrests had been made in the south of the U.K. city, where a day earlier a 23-year-old man was also arrested and a number of homes were searched.
